Prepare for a definitive 10-day odyssey through the cloud forests and paramos of the Central and Western Andes, a journey designed to showcase Colombia’s most prestigious birding «jewels.» This expedition offers a rare altitudinal sweep, from the endemic-rich slopes of Tatamá National Park—where the Gold-ringed Tanager reigns—to the volcanic highlands of Los Nevados, home to the ethereal Buffy Helmetcrest. You will experience the «wild side» of Colombia in complete comfort, visiting world-class sites like Owl’s Watch and Rio Blanco for antpittas, and Otún Quimbaya for the majestic Andean Tapir. Itinerary per day
On Day 1, your guide and driver will be waiting for you at Pereira Airport to begin an incredible adventure. From there, we will transfer to your selected hotel and then head to Tatamá National Natural Park, staying at Montezuma Eco-Lodge. There, we will spend the first three days immersed in the stunning Western Andes of Colombia.
On Days 3, 4, and 5, we will focus on exploring the full altitudinal range of this incredible national park, where we will encounter some of the rarest and most threatened species in the world. Here, we will have the chance to see birds found nowhere else, along with orchids and mammals. This is where the true wild side of Colombia begins—all while staying in a comfortable lodge nestled within the national park. On Day 5, after midday, we will travel to the city of Manizales, where we will arrive at the comfortable QUO Hotel.Â
Targets: Gold-ringed Tanager (E), Chestnut-bellied Flowerpiercer (E), Black-and-Gold Tanager (E), Chamà Antpitta (E), Fulvous-dotted Treeruner, Pacific Tuftedcheek, Orange-breasted Fruitear, Velvet-purple Coronet, Purple-bibbed Whitetip, Brown Inca, Green Thorntail, Violet-tailed Sylph, and among 450 Bird species.

On this day, we will visit Owl’s Watch at Rio Blanco Reserve, a premium lodge with very nice birds on feeders and on field. We will have very nice food and a nice day birding, and we will watch Owls in the night. The toucans and the rare antpittas will be the main targets there.
Targets: Masked Saltator, Black-billed Mountain Toucan, Brown-banded Antpitta (E), Black-and-chestnut Eagle, Golden-headed Quetzal, Masked Trogon, White-throated Daggerbill, Grass-green Tanager, Rusty-faced Parrot, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker.

This day we will be around Hacienda El Bosque Feeders, there we will find one of the most rare and enigmatic species on feeders in the world. We will se here some different antpittas and toucans!
Targets: Equatorial Antpitta, Grey-breasted Mountain Toucan, Barred Fruiteater, Crescent-faced Antpitta, Ocellated Tapaculo, Andean Pygmy-Owl, Hooded Mountain Tanager, Andean Guan, White-browed Spinetail
(E) Endemic - (CE) Near Endemic - (EN) Endangered - (VU) VulnerableÂ
Altitud 3.800 - 4.100 masl. Highlands - Páramo . Central Andes.
On this day, we will discover the magic of Colombia’s páramos. There, we will explore an incredible ecosystem where very few species have managed to adapt. We will slowly witness how the cloud forest transforms into the páramo, and with some luck, we will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano.
After that we will go to Termales del Ruiz and see the Hummingbirds and the incredible feeders.
On this day, we will visit the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, the third national protected area in this expedition. Here, we will have excellent chances to spot the Andean tapir, along with several endemic and remarkable bird species that are found almost exclusively in this region, after staying here, we will go back home on day 10
Targets: Cuaca Guan, Red-Ruffed Fruitcrow, Torrent Duck, Bronze-olive Pygmy Tyrant.
