Itinerary per day
On the first day of our journey, I will personally welcome you at Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport, with convenient direct flights from Miami. From there, we will head straight to La Florida Bosque de las Aves—an incredible sanctuary filled with extraordinary wildlife—where we will spend our first night surrounded by nature.
----
We begin with one of the best bird feeders in Colombia, where you’ll encounter spectacular species such as the endemic Chestnut Wood-Quail, the dazzling Multicolored Tanager, and the elusive Scaled Antpitta. Around midday, we will embark on a scenic 2–3 hour journey to San Cipriano, where we’ll hop aboard the iconic “Brujita” rail carts to reach this magical community deep within the Chocó rainforest.
Get ready to be fully immersed in the dense and mysterious Chocó Rainforest—one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Here, we will search for birds found almost nowhere else, including the enigmatic Sapayoa, Chocó Trogon, Chocó Screech-Owl, Chocó Poorwill, Chocó Toucan, Chocó Woodpecker, Gray-and-gold Tanager, Scarlet-and-white Tanager, Blue-whiskered Tanager, Rufous-winged Tanager, Saffron-headed Parrot, Blue Cotinga, Black-tipped Cotinga, Ocellated Antbird, Zeledon’s Antbird, Red-capped Manakin, Tawny-faced Gnatwren, Tiny Hawk, Semiplumbeous Hawk, Black-and-white Owl, Crested Owl, Crimson-bellied Woodpecker—and hundreds more breathtaking species.
After departing from Buga, we will travel to El Retorno del Colibrí, where at least five endemic species await us, including the Indigo-capped Hummingbird, Tolima Dove, Tolima Blossomcrown, Colombian Chachalaca, White-tipped Sicklebill, and Orange-chinned Parrot.
We will depart early from Anaime for a truly unforgettable experience—observing the Yellow-eared Parrot and Golden-plumed Parakeet right at their nesting sites. With some luck, we may also encounter the stunning Purple-backed Thornbill and the unique Mountain Avocetbill.
On our final day, we venture into the high-altitude páramo of Páramo de Campanario before returning to Pereira. Here, the mythical Chestnut-bellied Cotinga has been recorded, along with the rare Masked Mountain-Tanager and Indigo-winged Parrot—bringing our dream journey to a spectacular close, filled with hundreds of rare and endemic birds, and the finest guiding experience Colombia has to offer.
